Great progress is also being made in the construction of the new burn center. The second floor annex has begun to be built and is on schedule to be completed in August 2004. On November 3, 2003, Dr. Umang Patel, Dr. Hanuman Dass, and others, travelled to Ahmedabad, India to finalize plans for the Burn Center and attend the ground breaking ceremony and luncheon with grateful dignitaries from India. The fund raising event was held at India House, Schaumburg , Illinois on August 3, 2003. More than 400 people attended the dinner and musical program. Close to $250,000 was raised in donations and pledges for the burn center project. M r. Hiren Patel, President, National Republic Bank in Chicago, pledged $100,000 and it was decided to name the burn center the Rajen Sarabhai Patel Burn Center, in honor of his brother . |
